Proudly Canadian • Established 1980
Founded in 1980, Overseas Video Lab is one of the largest, oldest, and most respected video production, post-production, and archival digitization facilities of its kind in Canada. Operating out of our expansive ground-floor facility in Toronto, we combine state-of-the-art digital engineering with decades of technical mastery.
Preserve fragile family memories on 8mm/16mm film, VHS, camcorder tapes, audio cassettes, vinyl records, photos, slides, and physical documents into crystal-clear digital files before degradation occurs.
If it involves video, we do it—on-location and studio corporate filming, multi-camera event livestreaming, post-production editing, CRTC closed captioning, and master deck ingestion (Betacam, U-Matic, 1" Type C).
Not sure what type of tape, reel, or disc you have? Use our visual identification chart below. We maintain one of Canada's largest active arrays of legacy consumer and broadcast playback decks.

As one of Canada's largest and longest-standing video laboratories, we handle virtually everything related to video, film, audio, and digital media under one roof in Toronto.
According to archival warnings from UNESCO’s World Day for Audiovisual Heritage, millions of hours of magnetic tape are currently degrading beyond repair, and legacy playback equipment is rapidly going extinct. Analog formats like VHS and camcorder tapes were never manufactured to last forever. They are highly susceptible to binder breakdown, sticky-shed syndrome, demagnetization, and tape rot. Once these chemical processes begin, family moments and broadcast archives become permanently unplayable. Transfer your tapes to secure digital formats today while they can still be safely read.
Whether you have a box of childhood VHS tapes or an entire institutional library of broadcast masters, our facility is equipped to preserve your recordings in pristine digital formats (MP4, ProRes, Uncompressed, USB, Cloud, or DVD).
We maintain and calibrate a massive matrix of consumer and professional broadcast decks, including: VHS, S-VHS, VHS-C, Betamax, Video8, Hi8, Digital8, MiniDV, HDV, Laserdisc, DVCAM, DVCPRO, XDCAM, Betacam SP, Betacam SX, Digital Betacam, 3/4" U-Matic, and 1-Inch Type C Open Reel.
Our broadcast-grade time base correctors (TBC) and signal processors stabilize jitter, restore color accuracy, and guarantee archival-grade capture fidelity.
Over the past four decades, Overseas Video Lab has digitized tens of millions of feet of motion picture film for families, archives, museums, and feature film studios across North America. We convert Regular 8mm, Super 8, and 16mm film reels (ranging from 50 ft up to 2000 ft) to modern digital formats.
Unlike basic services that project film onto a wall, we utilize specialized, custom-engineered frame-by-frame telecine scanners. This captures the image directly from the physical film strip into a high-definition digital signal—completely eliminating flicker while dynamically optimizing speed, exposure, brightness, and color balance. We also capture magnetic soundtracks on Super 8 film and both optical and magnetic sound on 16mm reels.
Pretty much anything video-related, we can produce, film, stream, and edit. Since 1980, thousands of organizations—including International Corporations, Universities, Hospitals, Government Ministries, Non-Profits, and Television Studios—have relied on our experienced production crew and large Toronto facility.
We transfer delicate analog audio recordings into crystal-clear, high-fidelity digital files (uncompressed WAV masters, MP3, or Audio CD). Our studio ingestion decks natively support: Audio Cassette Tapes, 1/4" Open Reel-to-Reel Audio Tapes, Vinyl LPs (33 & 45 RPM), DAT (Digital Audio Tape), and 8-Track Cartridges.
We provide high-resolution digitization for both photographic archives and paper records. We scan documents, physical photo prints, 35mm slides, and film negatives into clean, organized digital files (PDF, JPEG, or uncompressed archival TIFF). For slides and negatives, we utilize advanced Digital ICE4 technology up to 4000 DPI, which automatically removes surface dust, scratches, and color fading.
In addition to scanning, we offer high-volume DVD & CD Duplication, custom-authored Video Slideshows for memorials and milestone events, PowerPoint-to-Video conversions, and professional Projector & PA Sound Equipment Rentals.
