Ever wonder why that tape you brought from overseas never worked on your VCR? Or why your tape you took overseas never worked over there? The reason is that there are several different video standards in the world.

Most of the world (Asia, Africa, Europe, Australia and South America) use the PAL system. North America & Japan use the NTSC system. France uses the SECAM system. All three of these systems are NOT compatible with each other. Hence, a tape must be converted so it can be used in another country using a different system.
